History
Port City Federal Credit Union, originally known as the Brunswick Employees Federal Credit Union, was chartered in June of 1944 by employees of the then Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company. We thank our founders who valued the concept of a credit union: a cooperative not-for-profit financial institution owned and controlled by its members, and organized to promote thrift and provide credit to those who belong. By June 1945, the number of members grew to 206.
Over the years, we amended our membership charter numerous times to allow more individuals, families, and businesses the benefit of credit union membership. In August 2007, our regulatory agency approved our request for a Community Charter, enabling us to serve all of Muskegon County. Following our community charter designation, to better reflect the nature of our overall membership, we changed our name to Port City Federal Credit Union. Today, we have the privilege of serving nearly 3,200 members.
